The Christian relic
St Peter’s Seminary is probably my favourite abandoned building. I’m not sure whether it’s the slight resemblance to the Barbican, with its bold concrete forms and layered geometry, or simply its setting in the Scottish landscape, but the place still holds an undeniable sense of wonder for me.
Once a modernist beacon of Catholic education, it now stands as a haunting relic. Weathered, graffitied, and slowly being reclaimed by nature. Officially classed as a historic ruin, the cost of restoring or repurposing it has proven far beyond reach, leaving its future uncertain. Perhaps that’s part of its allure: a rare architectural gem that exists in a state of suspended decay. I can only hope it’s left to endure for as long as possible, a testament to both its ambition and its impermanence.
